YOU’RE A SHINNING STAR
Express Your Light, Embrace Your Divinity

Thursday December 5, 2013 the world awakened to the news that Nelson Mandela had died.
Mandela was born in 1918 during a time when the most repressive white supremacist government kept the majority black population oppressed in a dehumanizing system known as apartheid.
Yet, Nelson Mandela grew up to become not only a lawyer but a freedom fighter chose to advocate for the liberation his people, later was sentenced for life to Robben Island prison for a crime he did not commit.
Then Mandela, 27 years later emerged from that prison at the age of 71, unbroken and unbowed, but more determined to emancipate his country. He became a modern day Moses who led not only the black majority to restructure the country of South Africa but white Afrikaaners into a democratic society, abolishing Apartheid. Mandela became South Africa’s first Black president and a world figure for Truth and Reconciliation.
THE QUESTION: How does a man born in apartheid South Africa, imprisoned for 27 years, released from prison, NOT BROKEN, but more determined to fight for the evolution of his country, becomes that society’s first Black President, ending Apartheid?
I would like to suggest that Nelson Mandela tapped into “something inside him so strong” that no matter what the external circumstances were, the darkness could not overcome the light within his soul.
We need to identify this inner light. Because that light which shines in every human soul, planet, solar system, galaxy and other sentient beings key to experiencing everlasting life.
There is a power with us, in us, operating through us that if we knew it, developed a relationship with it, become one with it and release it we would not only change our lives, but impact those around us, even moreso evolve the universe.
Marianne Williamson states this sentiment which I find apropos to our inner condition,
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
We are more than the stories we’ve been told. Who we’ve been told that we are and who we really are often in conflict with each other.
Master teacher, Yashua (aka Jesus, the Christ) states in
13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Beautiful words, but underneath the truth of these words, lies the reality that many of us are not like Mandela or Martin King. Its not that we don’t have the potential to become, it’s something else that is blocking our Light from shinning.
Let’s consider and examine this inner fear. Maybe the reason why we find it so easy to, give up on our dreams; shrink away from opportunities of promotion, leadership and change; learn new ideas, and challenge old belief structures; oppose new thought and criticize the people who go against the norm, is because we fear our own light and shy away from the pressure we feel that others who shine their around us put on us when we see their light shinning.
Think how easy it is to do nothing, be nothing, say nothing, to go along with the majority, to walk the road less traveled and not reach our highest spiritual potential.
WE MUST DEVELOP
OUR DIVINE WILL
Looking back at Matthew 5:13-16, it declares, You are the Salt of the earth, You are the Light of the World suggesting that our true nature is Divine Light. There are aspects of our reality that goes beyond what our eyes can see, even with the latest technologies can measure
Our latest science recognizes that:
1. Our visible universe is 3% of the totality of what reality is. The other 97% is composed of dark matter and dark energy. Its labeled dark because we don’t know what it is.
2. When we look at our physical reality, ourselves . . . We use only 3% of our DNA, yet the other 97% if expressed in a book would fill the Grand Canyon 500,000 times over.
3. Whatever the universe is, we are. You and I really are a shinning star. To be afraid of the dark is in essence to be afraid of yourself, your potential, your unrecognized light.
4. Our potential to do the miraculous, to perform magic is nothing more than realizing our divine self, our angelic soul.
This is why the Ancients said,
“Man know thyself and you will know the universe and its gods.
Therefore our challenge is to cultivate DIVINE WILL. To push back the fear of manifesting our divinity, which is our capacity to be immortal and increase life and light in the universe. This is what Jesus means when he says, don’t lose your saltiness and stop hiding our light under a bushel.
The Divine Will is the divine aspect of our thought. Will turn thoughts into reality. The force of Will is unlimited in its potential but only limited by the limits of our imagination. When we become self-aware and mindful of our thoughts and action, we strengthen the Will to do (see: Kelly Larsen’s Keys to Unlocking Your Inner Power).
THE POWER OF
It takes a whole village to raise a child.
There is probably no task so humbling yet so honorable than the opportunity to raise a child. Children do not come into this world “an empty slate.” They come to us with a energetic software program, preloaded.
We have the task, as parents and community leaders to recognize and understand our children as upgrades of an society’s ancestral incarnation. That is both humbling and an honor because our children come without an operator‘s manual.
Today in many of our communities, we bemoan the choices of violence and crime many children are making. Let us be reminded of poem Kahlil Gibran, On Children
And a woman who held a babe against her bosom said, “Speak to us of Children.” And he said:
Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts.
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer’s hand be for gladness;
For even as he loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.
So as parents, spiritual leaders and public school teachers how do we view the children of our society. What do we see when we look at them roaming the halls of the school or roaming the malls? How do our children view themselves when they look into the mirror.
Even more important, what do we see when we look into the mirror at ourselves?
I believe it’s the parental community’s duty is to see your star/light and create the educational environment that allows your Angelic genius to prosper.
I believe that what Kahlil Gibran is saying in this passage is that we must recognize the unique Code of the Soul that we all incarnate and develop the thought and will through self awareness and discipline of this inner light.
If so then we could trigger the greatest evolution in our society. Consider the example of this young, black and gifted British 6 year old boy Joshua Bedford.
Joshua Bedford is now the youngest student at Oxford University. He’s 6 years old studying Philosophy, Math and History. It began when his father noticed his sons playing on a computer. He realized that his son was intentionally making words and sentences and had an aptitude for reading and comprehension. Oxford recognized the child’s precociousness. Now he‘s studying Plato.
Do you think its any different for the many other children in the slums, ghettoes around the world? Do you think it’s any different for you?
This is what it means to “let your light shine.“ When we as adults stop limiting our potential, we give others and especially our children the permission to explore their potential and we evolve our environment
When parents and teachers continue to develop and express their light, we motivate our children to do the same. Before you realize it, we have created communities of light bearers and bringers. We must Embrace our light, our divinity, our Angelic Soul.
“Let Your Angelic Soul Shine, before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Stop acting like you can’t make a difference
Stop giving more time to doing nothing than to developing your Soul
Stop hiding your light under a bushel, let your light shine
Stop hating on others who are shining their light. Be encouraged by them and add your light to their light.
This is how we evolve our Society and curb the enthusiasm for Violence: BE A SHINNING STAR of creativity.
Yes you will encounter opposition. Albert Einstein is quoted saying,
“Great Spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.”
This is why I treasure Nelson Mandela, Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali, Martin L. King, Jr., Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Mary McCloud Bethune, Ida B. Wells, Barbara Jordan, Professor Benjamin Mays, Bobby Hemmitt, Dr. Jewel Pookrum, Dr. Mitchell E. Gibson and Kathy Gibson and so many more. Their willingness to express their own light, encouraged me to express my light.
Despite the opposition from mediocre minds they tapped into SOMETHING INSIDE SO STRONG. What’s in them is in you and me and if we develop and release our DIVINE WILL we will express the LIGHT WITHIN and reveal our ANGEL SOUL
YOU ARE A SHINING STAR FOR US TO SEE WHAT YOU LIFE CAN TRULY BE. As Earth, Wind and Fire sung,
FOR YOU TO SEE
WHAT YOU LIFE
CAN TRULY BE
