Former Canadian Minister of Defense Paul Hellyer has become a very famous man over the past few months. His testimony during the Citizens Hearings on Disclosure have attracted millions of views from people all over the world. I wrote about his testimony on my blog and it quickly became one of my most popular posts. The Honorable Paul Hellyer is the highest ranking man among all the G8 countries to openly speak about his beliefs regarding UFOs. Up until this time, high ranking senior officials have tended to avoid speaking about their beliefs in life outside this planet. The only major exception to this reality has been the statements given by former president Jimmy Carter. President Carter openly stated on many occasions that he saw a UFO. A plethora of retired US government military officials have spoken at press conferences about their UFO experiences, but we are still left with trying to understand the staggering testimony of a cabinet level official of a major western country.
Paul Hellyer is one of Canada’s best known and most controversial politicians. First elected in 1949, he was the youngest cabinet minister appointed to Louis S. St. Laurent’s government eight years later. He subsequently held senior posts in the governments of Lester B. Pearson and Pierre E. Trudeau, who defeated him for the Liberal Party leadership in 1968. The following year, after achieving the rank of senior minister, which was later designated Deputy Prime Minister, Hellyer resigned from the Trudeau cabinet on a question of principle related to housing.
Although Hellyer is best known for the unification of the Canadian Armed Forces and for his 1968 chairmanship of the Task Force on Housing and Urban Development, he has maintained a life-long interest in macroeconomics. Through the years, as a journalist and political commentator, he has continued to fight for economic reforms and has written several books on the subject. A man of many interests, Hellyer’s ideas are not classroom abstractions. He was born and raised on a farm and his business experience includes manufacturing, retailing, construction, land development, tourism and publishing. He has also been active in community affairs including the arts and studied voice at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. His multi-faceted career, in addition to a near-lifetime in politics, gives Hellyer a rare perspective on what has gone wrong with world economies.
In recent years he has become interested in the extraterrestrial presence and their superior technology that we have been emulating. In September 2005 he became the first person of cabinet rank in the G8 group of countries to state unequivocally “UFO’s are as real as the airplanes flying overhead.”
Coming from such a storied political background, he could have easily retired and enjoyed his senior years away from the glare of media scrutiny. As I read the comments about his testimony on blogs and video sites all over the world, I am ashamed at the abuse and criticism that his testimony has drawn. Words like senile, incompetent, old coot pepper the comment rows and spur lively debate among those who enjoy such things.
As a psychiatrist, I am trained in determining competency at a professional level. I have seen a great deal of testimony from Mr. Hellyer. He displays no signs of senility, incompetence, or impaired functioning. Even though he is a man well into his 80s, he displays sharp intellect, superior verbal skills, and extraordinarily lucid thinking. If anything, he is a sterling example of how any person would desire to function at such an advanced age.
So here we have a man who has a career of high stature, intelligent, powerful, and politically well connected, willing to risk everything on a controversial topic. Why does he do it?
Paul Hellyer’s testimony is impassioned. When you watch him speak, the thoughtful observer almost immediately notices that he cares deeply about people. He speaks about equality, fairness, and transparency. He speaks about a ruling elite and how they have enslaved us all. He talks about the reality of the brotherhood of all men and how we should work together to make the world a better place.
I believe that this man sees a light of hope in the disclosure of the reality of alien races living among us. He believes that their superior technology and willingness to work with us in sharing that technology is an important stepping stone to mankind’s emergence from the dark ages of fossil fuels and economic slavery. According to Hellyer and others, there are races living among us that have conquered these issues and are now traveling among the stars.
Can mankind overcome the disease of disbelief and rise above the need to destroy itself? Do we have the right to live among the highly evolved races of our galaxy?
It may be possible that those beings have already come to meet us. It may be possible that they have lived among us for thousands of years. It may be possible that they are silently guiding us toward a brighter, more evolved future free of the all too human ills that hold us back.
My hope for this world has been lifted by the words and works of this man. I hope that other, more powerful world leaders will look at what he is doing and lift the veil of secrecy that surrounds the issue of life on other planets. If they are here working with us, I believe that it is time for the world to know about this reality. If they can help us evolve, cure disease, solve the energy crisis, and stabilize our economy, let them help us. If they exist, let the human race as a whole decide what we learn from them.
