Are We Destined to Become Quantum People?
Quantum mechanics has become the most successful scientific model of all time. For more than fifty years, mankind has reaped the benefits of research related to such unlikely topics as quantum entanglement, quantum switches, teleportation, and spooky action at a distance.
Research in these areas has led to the development of almost all the latest advances in computers, electronics, communications, and physics. Almost every electronic item in your home owes at least part of its function to advances in quantum physics. The computer that you are using at this moment is powered by advances in quantum mechanics. In short, without the advances afforded mankind by the advances of quantum mechanics, we would still be living in the equivalent of the scientific stone age.
Many of the basic principles of quantum mechanics are unknown to the average person. These principles are yet to be taught in any meaningful way at the high school or college level. However, these principles explain human consciousness more accurately than any previous scientific theory. That is not to say that we understand consciousness in any meaningful manner at the scientific level, but quantum mechanics gives us the tools to make a more meaningful exploration of the subject than any of our previous models.
Quantum entanglement is a curious property of quantum mechanics that occurs in certain circumstances when multiple particles physically interact due to the forces that exist between them. Such “entangled” particles exhibit states and properties that are correlated. These particles can be separated by great distances and still remain entangled. They will act in predictable ways that defy logic and reason. One might expect that the entangled particles in reality share some hidden variable that determines their behavior, but recent experiments in physics have proven that this is not the case.
Furthermore, entanglement is not limited to isolated subatomic particles. Groups of particles, molecules, and nanostructures can also be entangled according to the recent physics experiments of Victor S. Batista at Yale University. If particles, molecules, and nanostructures may become entangled, why not larger structures?
As we grow to depend on the benefits of quantum mechanics, what would happen if we began to take on the properties of quantum reality at the macrocosmic level. Would we be able to teleport from one place to another? Would we learn to communicate with each other telepathically? Would mankind begin to experience the oneness with all matter that is implied by the discoveries of quantum mechanics?
For thousands of years, the process of praying, offering food and sustenance, and repetitive rituals aimed at connecting with higher forces has been the preferred method of worship on this planet. By doing this, we seek to establish an “entangled relationship” with a god or higher being. This relationship benefits the practitioner in allowing them to get more of what they need in life. Repeating the rituals over and over establishes a relationship with the higher forces that allows life to be easier.
Every time we use our digital phones, computers, cars, televisions, and every other device that depends on quantum mechanics, we entangle ourselves with the technology in ways that most of us do not fully understand. Are we establishing a relationship with these quantum forces that will change us in ways that we cannot yet see?
The ancients believed that the repeated worship of higher forces over time afforded the follower a portion of the power of the gods. They believed, that the higher forces knew that they were being worshipped and over time, began to share a portion of their power through benevolent action.
Did the ancients understand more about the quantum world than we ever realized?
Religion and magic may well point to a hidden process that our ancestors left us that will allow us to escape the physical world and become evolve to the next level of reality. We have largely replaced religious and magical ritual with new rituals based on electronics and the digital age. We still however, depend upon ritual to get us through the day. By entangling ourselves with modern quantum ritual, will we emerged as a changed species?
At the microcosmic quantum level of reality, the laws of what is real and what is possible are very different than those at the macrocosmic level of the universe. At the quantum level, reality shifts from moment to moment. Thought and observation have the ability to change reality. Teleportation is a common occurrence. People have often reported such things in the world of matter at the macrocosmic level, but scientists have dismissed such claims as impossible.
What if our use of quantum devices entangles us with the forces that make these claims not only possible, but inevitable? We may have to look at the future of our world in vastly different ways.
